Pursuit of Happyness

Chris Gardner, the self-made millionaire who inspired the movie The Pursuit of Happyness, made an appearance on the Glenn Beck show today. I saw the movie when it came out and it was truly inspiring. Gardner had absolutely nothing except a wife who left him and a 14-month-old son (in the movie, the son is around 5 and is played by Will Smith's son). He worked hard and made sacrifices in order to achieve a coveted position as a stock broker.

My boyfriend's father also worked hard and made sacrifices. He screwed up for his first few years of college and partied too much. Then he got his act together, went back to school, and became an accountant. He's been the CFO of several companies, helped found several companies, and will soon be the CEO of a to-be-founded company. He works very long hours; is sometimes threatened by corrupt businessmen who want him to sign off on tampered documents; and overall is an extremely hard worker who made a very good life for him and his family.

How dare people call Gardner or my boyfriend's father "greedy" or "selfish." How dare Obama have the audacity to raise their taxes when they and the rest of the 1% of the country pay 50% of the taxes.

Whatever happened to working hard and making sacrifices to get what you want? Now people just expect the government to hand them everything, and then they still complain about the "greedy rich people."

don't get me started on this..................... I was a stockbroker............ started as a "page" worked 4 jobs including that one. went to school at night and earned everything i got. Not on my back or on my looks, because i was HUNGRY....... It makes me sick, no matter if you are male, female, purple in color that people are covetous of what you have, and where you got because you were inspired and wanted to achieve..............I saw this movie.... It was great..... But the message was lost on so many.......... They saw a blackman put down, instead of a PERSON overcoming adversity.

peace out

I loved that movie. It's sad to see the story turned into an NAACP sob story
