I will be afraid...very afraid.
So many of my peers have been brainwashed by the largest, most successful liberal indoctrination camp there is: the public school system. Now that high school's over, they're really in their element: in college, surrounded by liberal professors and liberal classmates. Their beliefs go unchallenged. They are not required to think critically since it takes little to no effort to write a paper on how George W. Bush was the worst president in the nation's history and get an A. I, on the other hand, do have to think critically in order to best refute the liberal ideologies of my non-Western history professor who just happens to be one of the most intolerable liberals on the planet (The Most Intolerable Liberal award goes to a friend of mine who's an aspiring lawyer and politician...I shudder at the thought of him running for office but then perk up at the idea of running against him).
Much to my chagrin, the majority of students on my campus are liberal. You should have seen the Obama inauguration propaganda. There were flyers all over the place and a "celebration party" during the inauguration. Needless to say, I had better things on my agenda.
Getting down to it, my concern is, what's going to happen when my generation becomes the generation that's in charge? Will there be any conservatives left? We see all of the awful things that are happening now with Obama in the White House and the Democrats controlling both houses of Congress. We see how when we the "extremists" speak out against big government and big spending, we are demeaned by unprofessionals, cheerleading for Obama, who have sunk lower than ever before. We see the country that we know and love on the highway to socialism. All I can say is that I think when its my generation in Congress, it's going to be much, much worse than it is now. I certainly hope that won't be the case, but unfortunately, the future is looking very dim.
(I don't like being pessimistic but how can I not be with all the trouble that's been going on?)

Hopefully, they will become more discerning. If they are able to get a job, lets see how they like giving big government big bucks to waste.
Getting a job turns a lot of people; so does hardship and if most of us Bitter Clingers are right we are getting ready to go through some hardships. I think we are about to see living proof that Progressive Statist policies fail. That should cure a lot more.
My question is: when your generation comes to power will they be able to put things back together, I am not sure my generation will be able to get it done. We will shortly after 2012.

Hang in there. It wasn't too long ago I was in your position. KOOK is right about people changing when they get a job. You start feeling differently when you actually start paying for these policies. I've also seen the most staunch liberals change once they have children.
This year I was lamenting that McCain would probably be our last candidate from the Greatest Generation (the WWII generation). I am somewhat hopeful we won't get another Baby Boomer. I think there is hope with the Gen Xers (Obama is Gen X, but he's a traitor). Gen Xers are notorious for distrusting government.
Don't let the college fool you though. There are a lot of conservatives out there, they just don't tend to be vocal. The left is actually fairly small, they are just shouting all the time so they sound bigger then they are. Remember, the election was 58 million to 50 million. By no means a landslide. It's about as much as Bush beat Kerry. The left is over playing their hand and it will cost them.
I don't know how accurate it is but Winston Churchill supposedly said "If you aren't a liberal by the time you're 20 you don't have a heart; If you aren't a conservative by the time you're 40 you don't have a brain?".
When I was 17 I was in GreenPeace. Now at 35 I don't swing that way ;)
Agreed with what KOOK said above- actually working for a living and having to pay your way turned a lot of libs I knew in college into conservatives relatively quickly...the more they try to bleed the honest and hardworking middle class the more backlash you will likely see...at least, that's my hope

The great experiment tried during the FDR administration has made a comeback. For all their claims of "progressivism" it is truly regressivism. There are no new idas being presented. There is ntohing here that hasn't already been tried. The only new idea is that there wasn't enough money spent on the first go round.
Conservatives need to recognize that this is not about left versu right, it is much deeper. This is about the course we will chart for our civilization for years to come. It boils down to the simple premise of recognizing the individual being the most important part of the group versus the group is everything. The choice rests solely in our corner and the 2010 elections will be an indcation of which side got their side message out there the best.
Another great post. I know what you mean by being surrounded by indoctrinated young people. I wonder if Reagan thought the same thing when he was in college? Certainly he did in Hollywood, even years ago! Keep up the spirit! Remember that sometimes we grow stronger in our beliefs through defense of those beliefs...
I loved this post. I agree with you that it is only a matter of time. Liberal ideology has taken over all outlets. It is refreshing to meet a college student who is smart enough to think for herself.
